Christmas Sip & Create
What a wonderful evening with the ladies at our very first Sip & Create event! It was lovely meeting new people and seeing friendships begin in such a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed making their own personalised decoupage coasters, and were rightly proud of the results.
A big thank you to Lesley and Jano for generously volunteering their time and putting on a wonderful spread of cheese, biscuits, and mocktails.
Keep an eye out for details of our upcoming Valentine’s Sip & Create in February!

The weather didn't stop us today as we joined Carers Stepping Out for the annual last walk of the year to Rochester!
Thank you to all our members across our 3 groups that braved the rain to make it such a wonderful inclusive outing.
A walk and talk, followed by delicious lunch and a seasonal carol service. Some beautiful shop window displays again this year too.

We had a fantastic time at today’s Teynham session. It was lovely to welcome three new members into the group — we hope they felt right at home. Paul brought along his music and played a few tunes that really lifted the room.
We got into the festive spirit with a fun Christmas quiz and our lively Christmas pudding swap game, which had everyone laughing and joining in. A raffle added to the excitement, and we want to say a big thank-you to our trustee Bob for kindly donating a box of chocolates for all our members — such a thoughtful treat!
We were also pleased to have the One You team with us, offering friendly and helpful health checks throughout the morning. A great session all round!

We were delighted to spend some time at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub this week, where we were able to hand out a number of our Winter Warm Packs, funded by Southern Housing to Age UK Sheppey clients. It was lovely to catch up with everyone as they popped in, and we’re pleased these packs will offer a little extra warmth and comfort as the colder weather sets in.

Lesley took time this week to pay tribute to our Friendly Faces of Kent Trustees "Wow how lucky am I to have such great trustees by my side? Thank you to Beverley Nolker Bob Grey and Lynda Kent, who give their time to guide me to head our fantastic Charity. Your dedication and love of Friendly Faces Of Kent means our organisation has the foundations to thrive and grow in a positive way, meaning our members get the support they need. You are all truly amazing!"
The weather was very mild and good to see some 14 in attendance including another new guy joining us.
While some of the guys enjoyed themselves playing Cards (trumps I believe) others were talking about Christmas and plans they were making. Some will be helping local charities on Christmas and boxing Day, serving Christmas dinners and such. Giving back to the local community is something they often talk about. We have also a date for our own Christmas lunch on the 10th of December and we all thank Lesley for securing some sponsorship towards this meal. All in all another great evening was had by all.

We had a fantastic morning with our Teynham members today!
Starting this month’s energy theme, we were delighted to welcome Katy from Citizens Advice, who shared brilliant tips on staying warm this winter and saving money on our bills. She was also kindly on hand to give confidential advice on this and other consumer questions our members had.
Everyone got stuck into a fun energy-themed word search and quiz, and we even held a free raffle!Five lucky members walked away with one of our Winter Warm Pack to help keep the cold at bay.
A big thank you to all who joined us — staying warm and staying connected!

We were delighted to welcome back our friends from Infinity Age UK Sheppeythis week for one of our favourite regular visits. The weather put the garden out of use, but indoors was full of chatter and creativity as everyone got hands-on making bird feeders — with the lovely idea of taking one home and donating another to our community garden, here at Rushenden Wellbeing Hub
It was a wonderful chance to spend time together, enjoy good company, and doing something that will help local wildlife too. We’re so grateful for the continued partnership and can’t wait for their next visit. A great time was had by all!

We had such a lovely time at today’s Teynham group, continuing our autumn theme. Great to see some of our old members returning and to welcome new member Heather today.
We were so pleased to have Helen join us, who led a fun and practical workshop showing everyone how to make a simple bird feeder for their gardens.
Even though the weather is still unseasonably warm, it won’t be long before the birds start looking for easy access to extra food — so our feeders will come in handy in the months ahead!
Members also enjoyed taking part in our Autumn Quiz and the ever-popular Raffle, before signing up for our upcoming group walk in Hythe.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us today — what a wonderful way to start the week!

This week our Sheerness Group met atAge UK Sheppeywhere we welcomed friends old and new to our monthly coffee morning, and the whole event was filled with the warmth and colours of autumn.
We began with plenty of tea, coffee, and chatter as everyone settled in, followed by a lively celebrity quiz celebrating well-known faces with autumn birthdays. Laughter and good-natured guesses filled the room and some sparking conversations. We then moved on to our relaxing “Guess the Birds” game, which brought out both the keen birdwatchers and those just happy to have a go — and it certainly kept the smiles going.
In keeping with the season, the group also got hands-on with a simple but meaningful activity: planting bulbs. Each person planted two — one to take home and nurture, and another to gift to a friend. This thoughtful gesture not only celebrated the joy of growing but also the spirit of giving and connection that runs through everything we do.
As always, the best part of the morning was the friendship, laughter, and sense of community that filled the room. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us — you helped create another memorable gathering full of warmth, fun, and togetherness.

We were delighted to receive a wonderful visit today from our close friends at Age UK Sheppey at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub. With the fantastic assistance of our dedicated volunteer, Vicki Hay, we prepared the planters with a variety of vibrant bulbs, ready for a burst of colour in the Spring season. And to complete the afternoon, we all indulged in a session of tea, biscuits, and shared countless heart warming stories together!

Thanks to Sue and her team at Carers Stepping Out for organising the amazing walk through Shorne Park Woods today. The weather was perfect for both the short and longer walks, and finished off with a delicious lunch in the sunshine.

This month, our wonderfully talented crafting ladies truly outdid themselves. With nimble fingers and boundless imagination, they brought to life a breathtaking collection of macrame leaves and trees. Each piece was a testament to their skill, patience, and creative flair—woven with care and bursting with character.
From delicate leaf patterns to intricate tree designs, their creations transformed simple cords into works of art that radiate warmth and beauty. It was more than just crafting—it was a joyful celebration of creativity, connection, and the magic that happens when women come together to make something meaningful.

We had such a lovely morning at our Teynham group today at the Community Hall from 10am till Noon. Wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to give a warm welcome to two new ladies from the village. They came along and joined us after meeting one of our other members and striking up a chat – a perfect example of how community and friendships grow.
With this month’s theme of friendship, everyone enjoyed creating a pair of mini canvases – one to keep and one to gift to a friend or loved one. We also had a light-hearted activity matching members to their hobbies and preferences, alongside our ever-popular raffle and the beautiful mini friendship pockets kindly donated by Lisa.
A big thank you to One You Kent for joining us and offering free health MOTs.

We spent a delightful afternoon at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub, joined by our lovely friends from Infinite Age UK Sheppey. Over tea and sunshine, we shared stories, laughter, and a peaceful moment in the garden.
The vegetable patch was a hit, sparking curiosity and conversation as everyone tried their hand at identifying the fragrant herbs tucked into our planters. It was a joyful blend of nature, connection, and sensory fun.
We’re already counting down the days until we welcome everyone back next month for more shared moments and garden adventures!

Great Morning at Our Sittingbourne Group.
We had such a lovely time together today – plenty of laughter, conversation, and shared experiences as we explored The 5 Steps to Wellbeing.
A big thank you to Claire from Asda, always a familiar and welcome face at our meet-ups, and to Lisa for her thoughtful donation of friendship pockets for everyone to take home, plus some truly beautiful raffle prizes.
📅 Next meeting:
📍 Swale CVS
🕙 10am – Noon
📆 Thursday 11th September
Come along and join us for more connection, fun, and friendship! 🤗

We had a fantastic day with Carers Stepping Out in Blue Town, on the Isle of Sheppey. Our short guided walk through the historic dockyard streets was brought vividly to life by our volunteer guide, Mick.
For those who wanted to stretch their legs further, Barry led a longer route along the stunning seashore before winding back through the High Street.
A big thank you to Jenny and her team at Criterion Blue Town for the delicious buffet lunch that greeted us on our return. The museum itself, spread over two fascinating floors, was brimming with historical artefacts, a real treat for history lovers.
Great company, gorgeous weather, and a day full of history — what more could we ask for?

As Karon Bell Mancktelowsteps back from organising our monthly group meetings, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for all the energy, care, and dedication she's brought to the role.
Karon's efforts have shaped this group in ways that won't be forgotten, and her dedication has left a lasting mark.
We all wish her joy, fulfilment, and plenty of exciting new adventures ahead. She'll always be part of our story, and we hope our paths cross again very soon.
While we’ll miss her, we’re cheering her on as she embraces new challenges, and we wish her all the very best in whatever comes next.

Sheerness Group Meeting
What a lovely morning at Infinity's Rosemary House with our theme of exploring the Five Steps to Wellbeing, which sparked meaningful conversations, laughter, and moments of genuine connection. Each step offered a chance to reflect and refocus with examples like:
It was more than just a meeting. It was a celebration of what brings us together and makes us stronger. We're so grateful for every smile, every moment, and every person who joined us.

At our most recent Fancy Tat session at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub, our wonderful crafting ladies got stuck into a creative and eco-friendly activity led by the fabulous Janet and Claire. Using a mix of recycled jewellery components and a colourful array of beads, they designed and handcrafted their very own unique brooches. It was inspiring to see such imagination and attention to detail as each person brought their vision to life. A fantastic morning of fun, creativity, and community spirit – well done to everyone who took part!

A New Face joining our Team!
We’re thrilled to welcome our newest team member, Jano, who will be taking on the role of overseeing our back office systems and taking the lead at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub.
With Jano taking on these important responsibilities, and Karon stepping away, we’re excited to have Cheryl back as a familiar face at our Group Meetings and wellbeing Walk and Talks, bringing her energy and warmth back into the heart of the community.
It’s all part of keeping things running smoothly while staying connected to what matters most: people, wellbeing, and shared connections and experiences.
A huge thank you to Mick Gall and Vicki Hay, your time, support, and green thumbs are always appreciated!
Our team got stuck into harvesting a colourful crop of beans, juicy tomatoes, and fiery chili peppers. After picking, everything was blanched and carefully frozen, ready to be used in the next phase of our Plant to Plate project. It’s always rewarding to see our hard work turning into something that will benefit the wider community.
While we were thrilled with our harvest, not all the news was good — our poor cabbages have been completely devoured by caterpillars! It’s disappointing, but part of the reality of gardening. On the bright side, we now have a garden full of butterflies, which is a lovely sight and a reminder of the natural balance in our little ecosystem.
Mick also took some rosemary cuttings home to propagate in his greenhouse. Once they’ve taken root, they’ll be brought back and shared with our garden volunteers — a thoughtful way to keep the cycle of giving and growing going.
Moments like these remind us of the power of community, nature, and teamwork. Whether it’s planting, picking, or simply sharing a chat among the plants, every visit to the Hub brings something special.

Our talented crafters have truly outdone themselves this month! With inspiration and guidance from the lovely Claire and Janet from Fancy Tat they’ve created these beautiful 3D houses and charming beach huts — each one unique and full of character. From cosy bookshops and colourful cottages to bright seaside huts, every detail has been lovingly crafted and decorated by hand.
It’s always wonderful to see everyone’s creativity shine, and this month’s project has really brought out the best in our group. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just looking to try something new, there’s always plenty of fun, laughter, and good company at our sessions.
If you’d like to come along and join in, we’d love to see you! Our next crafting get-together will be at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub on Friday 1st August from 10am until noon. We'll be creating some beautiful and unique jewellery brooches. Bring your ideas, have a cuppa, and create something special — everyone is welcome!

Thanks to our funders Kent Community Foundation our Sittingbourne group members will continue to be supported. It's such a meaningful boost—and heartening to know, that the Sittingbourne group has that solid foundation for the future. We had such fun today talking about what keeps our minds HAPPY! With a collage of happy thoughts and a interesting quiz about health related tips. A recipe for smiles and self-care, with a the mix of laughter and insightful moments as everyone shared what brings them joy.
It was lovely to also share news of our SGN project and help some with CO units and energy saving advice. CO safety and energy-saving tips can make a real difference in everyday life.
Another session where we managed to strike that perfect balance between fun, connection, and meaningful impact.

Good morning everyone and welcome to your weekly update from our weekly Friendly Fellas drop in. We had 14 in attendance including Bob who had driven up from Folkestone to attend and support us (many thanks Bob from us all for your support)another great evening of banter and discussion on many subjects.
All the guys that were on the Kingfisher trip on the river Medway on Monday were sharing the occasion with those that were unable to attend and I can say that the trip was a % success.
Our thanks must go to our sponsors, Age UK Sheppey, and the National Lottery Community Funding, for making this wellbeing day such a great successful event.

Plant to Plate: Getting Our Hands Dirty for a Beautiful Cause
Huge thanks to the amazing Karon Bell Mancktelow and Vicki Hay for spending a scorching afternoon with me at Rushenden Wellbeing Hub! Together, we kicked off our planter transformation project—first coat of paint down and they’re already starting to look great. Can't wait to see these beauties filled with thriving plants that will feed both body and soul.

What a great morning at our Teynham group where we all enjoyed learning and talking about our wellbeing and sharing ways to feel uplifted
Why not join us next month on 4th August from 10 till 12 where we will have a speaker continuing our theme with a 5 Ways to Wellness talk and we'll have some wellbeing items to share with you all.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to an end, we’d like to thank our own volunteers once again for all they do and will continue to recognise and celebrate their contribution throughout the year. Community volunteers play a vital role in the delivery of our services and activities. As we reflect on their invaluable contributions, we are reminded of the power of compassion and collaboration in building a stronger community. They help us foster a sense of belonging and support among our members, and exemplify the true spirit of generosity and service.
We encourage others to follow in their footsteps and become agents of positive change in the lives of those around them.
Pleased get in contact if you'd like to volunteer with us.

This week's Fancy Tat session at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub, led by Claire and Janet, was yet another fantastic opportunity for our dedicated crafters to come together, socialize and bond, and enjoy some wonderful company. With lots of lively conversation and laughter, the group transformed recycled wine bottles into stunning luminaries—each a unique reflection of their artistry and imagination.

Our warmest thanks go out to Jordan, Marilyn, Helen, and Vera for their wonderful contributions at the Wellbeing Hub in Rushenden today. Together, they helped replant the raised planters with a variety of fresh herbs, bringing new life to our community space.
Join us again on 28th May, as we roll up our sleeves and dive into painting our wooden planters, getting them all set for growing delicious fruits and vegetables.
Community involvement is at the heart of what we do here at the Wellbeing Hub. Whether you have a green thumb or just want to lend a hand, there’s a place for everyone to contribute and make our space more vibrant and welcoming. As we nurture our plants, we also nurture our connections with one another. Join us in fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness as we work side by side to create a beautiful and sustainable environment for all to enjoy.

We extend our gratitude to Sue and her dedicated team of volunteers from Carers Stepping Out for extending a warm invitation to our Teynham members to participate in their Walk n Talk event at Knole Park. Despite the sweltering heat, many enthusiastically joined the extended walk around the estate, enjoying the sight of the wild deer herd. Meanwhile, others opted to explore the picturesque gardens surrounding the 16th-century House with its enchanting Gatehouse Tower. The serene ambiance, provided by the lush shady trees and the elegant Orangery, offered a tranquil retreat for all participants.

Our Sheerness community had a wonderful morning at Infinity Age UK Sheppey today as part of our ongoing partnership.
At the Social and Activity Centre, Nicky, the team, along with our dedicated volunteers Hina and Barry, organized our monthly Coffee Morning event. A fun picture quiz on British desserts had everyone engaged, followed by an exciting raffle. Members enjoyed the tasty treats and stayed back for a delightful lunch.
This collaboration aims to strengthen bonds and provide enriching experiences for everyone involved. We are grateful for the opportunity to come together, share laughs, and create lasting memories in a warm and welcoming environment.
Join us for our upcoming events to connect, engage, and enjoy quality time with our Sheerness community!

Today, a group of our lovely members had a wonderful day out at Aylesford Priory, thanks to our friends at Infinity Age UK Sheppey. We basked in the continuing sunshine while taking a leisurely stroll around the gardens and grounds. We indulged in a cup of tea at the delightful tea room, and explored the pottery and gift shop before savouring a delicious lunch. It was a truly perfect outing that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who joined us.

Special thanks to Claire and Janet, the wonderful ladies from Fancy Tat, for joining us this morning at the Wellbeing Hub in Rushenden for our crafting session. It was a peaceful morning spent socializing over a cuppa while creating exquisite Origami flowers together. We truly enjoyed the company and the creative experience. We look forward to more enjoyable sessions over the coming months.

Our founder and chief executive officer, Lesley, has recently visited Hempstead House in Sittingbourne. During her time there, she was pleased to accept a generous charitable donation of £250 from The Rotary Club. These crucial funds will have a significant impact on supporting the ongoing initiatives of our Sittingbourne group. Presently, the group gathers on the second Thursday of each month at Swale CVS from 10am to midday, serving as a welcoming and friendly space for our local community. The contribution received will be allocated towards various expenses such as venue rent and refreshments, ensuring the sustainability and continuation of this vital service for our Sittingbourne members. We are immensely grateful for the community's support, which enables us to further our ongoing services and activities.
Our Friendly Fellas drop in this week included sharing for a meal together at one of the local eateries in Sheerness. They met earlier than normal at the Lighthouse Café and those that were able went for a stroll through the town, and then up onto the seal wall, where they just enjoyed taking in the sunset on a beautiful evening and the sound of the sea. Then 11 guys were able to take part in enjoying a couple of hours chat over a nice meal. A great night was had by all.

Our thanks go out to Fiona, the Community Skills and Learning leader, from Kent Adult Education Service. This week some of our members came together, and met up at the Rushenden Wellbeing Hub to take part in 5 Ways to Wellbeing.
Fiona guided the participants in the benefits of good nutrition, exercise, socialising with others, learning and grounding. Everyone enjoyed taking part in the activity to reflect on what they'd learned, and finished with a short session of meditation. The perfect end to a calm and relaxing afternoon, spent with friends.

Lovely sunny morning at our Sheerness group today, held at Holy Trinity Church Hall. We were so happy to welcome 3 new members to join in the laughter and fun. Congratulations to Maggie who won our Mother's Day quiz, and to all the lucky raffle prize winners too. Thank you to Lisa for once again creating some wonderful pamper hampers, and to Jodie from One You for being on hand to offer a quick health MOT to members.

We popped into Spoilt For Choice on the High Street in Sheerness this week, to meet the lovely Paula and Rita. If you haven't already discovered it, this independent Artisan and Crafters shop sells some truly amazing handmade products. As part of their giving back to the community, we were so pleased to be named as their chosen charity. The money raised through their Christmas Raffle will allow us to offer extra activities and services, which our members really appreciate. Thank you ladies and good luck with the shop going forward into 2025
